Bee Removal Ottawa, OH: Honeybees in Trees and Sheds
Ottawa is the Putnam County seat, located on the Blanchard River. Neighborhood streets across Ottawa have rooflines, garages and siding gaps, and trees and sheds near the river are common places for stinging insects to settle. If you need bee removal Ottawa, OH help with honeybees in a tree, a shed or a wall, here’s what to know before you do anything.
Bee Removal Ottawa, OH: Trees, Sheds and Walls
UGA Extension Circular 824 explains that the natural nest site of honeybees is a hollow inside an old tree, and that wall voids attract swarms looking for a permanent home. That’s why colonies turn up in big trees, old sheds and house walls. See bees in a tree, wild honeybee nests and honeybees in walls.

Signs It’s a Honeybee Colony
- Fuzzy, golden-brown bees using the same hole or gap day after day.
- A cluster hanging on a branch, post or wall, which is usually a swarm.
- Dark staining, wax or honey seeping through a wall or ceiling.
- A loud hum inside a wall on warm afternoons.

What Not to Do
- Don’t spray the bees or pour anything into the entrance.
- Don’t seal the hole. Trapped bees may look for another way out, sometimes into the house.
- Don’t cut down the tree or tear into the shed wall first. That breaks the comb apart and makes relocation harder.
- Keep kids and pets back from the entrance.
Why We Never Spray Honeybees
Honeybees are always relocated, never exterminated. UGA notes they’re among the most beneficial of all insects and important pollinators of crops such as apples, blueberries, cucumbers and squash. Spraying or sealing a colony in a wall also creates new problems: UGA says that if a colony dies inside a wall, its combs can melt and stain the walls with honey and wax. Comb and honey left behind can also draw pests. See why beekeepers never exterminate honeybees.
How Honeybee Relocation Works
- Send a photo and the location.
- Swarms are boxed and taken alive. A swarm often moves on within a day or two, so call early.
- Colonies in structures are located with a thermal camera scan, then moved comb and all through a careful cutout. Leftover wax is cleaned off so new swarms aren’t drawn back.
- Timing. Relocation from walls and other structures is being scheduled for Spring 2027.
