Bee Removal Van Buren, OH: Barns, Sheds and Fence Rows
Van Buren is a village in Allen Township just north of Findlay, near I-75 and Van Buren State Park. Around Van Buren, the farm country means stinging insects build in barn eaves, machine sheds and fence rows as often as under porch roofs. If you’re looking for bee removal Van Buren, OH help, the first job is figuring out whether you have honeybees or wasps, because the two are handled very differently.
Bee Removal Van Buren, OH: Honeybees or Wasps?
- Honeybees are fuzzy, golden-brown and build wax comb inside a cavity: a wall void, an old timber or a hollow tree. You see bees coming and going from one gap.
- Paper wasps build open, umbrella-shaped paper combs under eaves and trusses. UC IPM notes paper wasps are rarely aggressive.
- Yellowjackets and hornets build paper nests in the ground, inside walls or as enclosed gray nests with a single entrance, and UC IPM calls cavity nesters the most troublesome group.

Honeybees in Barns and Sheds
UGA Extension Circular 824 explains that the natural nest site of honeybees is a hollow inside an old tree, and that wall voids attract swarms looking for a permanent home. Older barns and sheds offer plenty of both. Signs include bees using the same gap day after day, wax or honey seeping through boards, and a hum inside a wall on warm afternoons.
Please don’t spray or seal the gap. Sealing traps the colony, and comb and honey left behind can draw pests and stain walls. See honeybees in walls.
How We Handle Each
- Honeybees are always relocated. A thermal camera scan shows where the warm comb sits, then the colony is moved comb and all, and leftover wax is cleaned off. Relocation from structures is being scheduled for Spring 2027.
- Swarms on a post or branch are boxed and taken alive.
- Native paper wasps are relocated. Yellowjacket, hornet and European paper wasp nests are removed by hand or vacuum, with no pesticides near feed, crops or livestock.
